Why Soft Play Matters
Soft play is gross motor play in its purest form. Climbing, crawling, balancing, sliding, and lifting big (but light) blocks all use the large muscles kids need for everything else: running, jumping, and even sitting up at a table in school.
A foam ramp is also a safe place to take a risk. Kids get to try the climb that looks a little too tall, and if they tumble, they land on something soft. That’s how confidence gets built!
It’s also some of the most open-ended play out there. A foam wedge is a slide today, a mountain tomorrow, and a wall for a fort the day after. There’s no right answer, which is exactly why kids keep coming back to it.

I like anything that can be set up more than one way, because the toy gets a little different every time it comes out of storage (that’s the whole idea behind rotation).

This one is the odd one out. It’s a close-ended toy, with a goal to reach, but it still gets kids moving.
SoftZone Brainy Puzzle Set (ages 1+)
It’s an oversized 3D puzzle: seven foam pieces that fit together into a cube (almost 20 inches on each side). The play guide shows shapes to build, like an airplane, a dinosaur, and a tunnel.
Little ones will mostly stack and climb on the pieces, and that’s fine. Older kids can work on the challenges, which is great for problem solving and taking turns. If your kid is a perfectionist (mine is), start with the simple shapes before you try the cube.
