Behind the scenes
About Mommy Maker Teacher
Teacher by training, mom by trade, and self-proclaimed toy & play expert.
Hi, I’m Jacqui.
I wear a few different hats around here… former classroom teacher, current mom of two rambunctious boys, and the one testing and researching every toy on this site.
I’m a certified French & Spanish teacher with coursework in child psyhchology and language acquistion. For the past 15 years I have taught students ranging from infants to 18 year olds.
I’ve spent a lot of time thinking about how kids actually play, learn, and grow at every stage 🎯.
These days I bring that same background to Mommy Maker Teacher. You can find me researching, testing, and recommending toys and playtime systems that actually work, instead of just whatever’s trending.
What You’ll Find Here
Research and Development
As a mom and an educator, I take trustworthy, well-researched information seriously. Before anything goes up on the site, I draw on my own experience as a mother and a teacher, insights other moms have shared with me, and reputable sources like the American Academy of Pediatrics.
Product Recommendations
I hold every recommendation to the same standard: it’s something we own and use, something I’ve personally tried elsewhere — a library, a play space, a friend’s house — or something that comes highly recommended by someone I trust who’s used it. You can read the full breakdown on the Disclosure page.
I Am a Mom(my)
If you were to ask me who I am, the first thing I’d say is that I’m a mom. Despite the occasional exhaustion that comes from hearing “Mommy!” all day long, being a mom is the greatest joy of my life.
My two boys couldn’t be more different from each other; yet, are both the sweetest, loving beings I have ever met.
- My oldest is reserved, likes rules and structure, and always wants to know the plan and schedule.
- My youngest is wild and carefree. He likes structures and a plan, but is also happy to be free as the wind.
Keeping both kids happy while maintaining my sanity has taken lots of planning, trials, and errors over the years. Toyday we hold to a structured routine (for my oldest) that allows for spontaneous play (for my youngest).
This site started as a place to share what I was learning as a new mom. Now it’s grown into somewhere I get to combine that with my teaching background — researching and testing so you don’t have to guess what’s actually worth bringing home.
