Why We Like Fat Brain Toys
- They’re open-ended. Squigz, the Teeter Popper, and the Bilibo can be played with in infinite ways. More on that in our open-ended toys guide.
- They cover more than one toy category. A Squigz set is building, sensory, and fine motor all at once. A balance board is gross motor until it turns into a helicopter, and then it’s pretend play 😂.

Fat Brain Squigz and Building Toys
Squigz are kind of a block and kind of a sensory toy, depending on how your kid plays with them. My oldest has always loved blocks, and instead of trying to change that, we broadened his idea of what a block is.
Squigz Starter Set (ages 3+)
This is the one we had, and I have so many good memories of it. The pieces suction to each other, so kids can build towers, creatures, and whatever else they come up with.
Squigz were also a go-to when we left the house. I kept a few in the diaper bag for restaurants and doctor’s offices, and they’re one of my picks in our travel toys guide because they stick to airplane windows and tray tables.

PipSquigz (ages 6 mo+)
We never owned this jumbo baby version (they are a newer product), but my kids loved the regular Squigz so much that I had to include it.
The pieces are bigger and chunkier for little hands, they rattle when shaken, and they have different textures to feel (and chew). Stick one to the high chair tray or the car window and you’ve got a fine motor workout: grab, pull, pop, repeat.

We never owned this jumbo baby version, but my kiddos LOVED the regular Squigz, and these provide so much sensory input for babies, they had to make the list.

Fat Brain Balance and Gross Motor Toys
These are for the kids who need to move (read: they always need to move!). They’re both simple shapes with no instructions, which is exactly what makes them good gross motor toys. For bigger climbers and ride-ons, I’d look at our Little Tikes favorites.
Teeter Popper (ages 3+)
My kids played with a similar board that didn’t have the suction cups on the bottom, and these kinds of boards get a lot of use. Kids rock, spin, and balance, which builds core strength and coordination.
Then the pretend play kicks in. A board like this can be a boat, a car, or a spinning chair, depending on the day. The suction cups on the Teeter Popper add a popping sound as it rocks, which kids love for the same reason they love Squigz.

Bilibo (ages 2+)
The Bilibo came out after my kids had passed the right age for it, but we’ve played with plenty of similar sensory and gross motor toys, so when I saw this one I knew it belonged here.
It’s a lot like the Teeter Popper, but the raised sides make it a better fit for younger kids. It’s a shell shape with no right way to use it. Kids can sit in it and spin, rock it like a boat, flip it over and stand on it, or turn it into a helmet, a turtle shell, or a bowl for their stuffies. That’s balance, sensory input, and pretend play from one piece of plastic.

Fat Brain Musical Toys
Music at our house is mostly Yoto players and Dollar Tree instruments (our musical toys guide has the full list), but this is one I’d add for kids who want to run and play music all at the same time!

FAQ
At our house, Squigz were the favorite by far. We built with them, stuck them to windows, and took them everywhere. For babies, look at PipSquigz!
The regular Squigz Starter Set is labeled 3+. For babies and young toddlers, PipSquigz are the jumbo version, labeled 6 months and up.
They stick best to smooth, flat surfaces like windows, tile, mirrors, and the tub. They would stick to a tile or smoothe wall as well. They also stick to each other, which is how kids build with them.
It’s labeled 3+. Kids use it to rock, spin, and balance, and it often turns into pretend play (a helicopter, a boat, a spaceship).
Most are quite pricey, so it’s a worthy investment (they hold up for years) if it’s something your kid is passionate about. For us, ours loved blocks, so we tried every type of block there is.
