Zebra Baby Toy Chest Review

Zebra Baby is a brand I trust for high-quality children’s products. So, when they asked me if I was interested in reviewing their toy chest, I immediately was!

We’ve been using this storage chest in my house every day for the past two months since we got it. So this isn’t a first-impression review, but rather my honest feedback after much wear and tear from my two and four-year-old.

One of the most used toddler equipment in my house is my toddler booster seat from Zebra Baby. It has been used 3+ times a day, every day, for the last three years, and it still looks as good as the day we got it.

I was sad to hear they no longer carry the booster seat, but I was happy to learn they are putting the same care into quality, safety, and attention to detail in their new toy chest 🥳.

Inside the Box

The packaging is everything I would expect from this brand. It’s simple, cute, gender-neutral, and highlights all of the storage chest’s features.

Inside the box, I found:

  • Clear directions for assembly
  • One larger folded base
  • One large folded container chest
  • Two section dividers for the chest
  • Three lid pieces

Assembling

I set aside 20 minutes to assemble the toy organizer… But I only really needed 3 minutes! It was incredibly simple to put together.

  1. Unfold the chest
  2. Unfold and insert the base
  3. Velco the inner dividers (optional, but I did)
  4. Velcro the lid pieces

The trickiest part was getting the lid pieces to align. I’m unsure why the lid is divided into three (versus one large lid covering the whole box). But, once you properly align the velcro, it stays in place.

Fabric & Materials

Zebra Baby offers their storage chest in two colors:

  1. Grey
  2. Safari Yellow

The Safari Yellow would be incredible in a nursery or playroom. Our storage chest is in my office and doubles as a play space for my older son during naptime, so I wanted something that would blend with my office decor.

The grey fabric is just the right color—not too light, not too dark. It’s heathered, so it conceals dust. The fabric is water-resistant to protect against spills and looks brand-new even after months of use.

The chest walls are made of hollow plastic board, NOT cardboard. Cardboard is flimsy (it will not stand up to a toddler) and can harbor bacteria and mold from storage and shipping.

I feel much better knowing our box is made of plastic board, which is more sturdy and safer for my kids.

The compartments are enormous! See the picture below with my son’s Hot Wheels car carrier inside!

Versatile Portable Storage

Although this is marketed as a toy chest, I can think of many ways we will continue using this storage chest, even after our kids outgrow their toys.

  1. Nursery Storage: Good for swaddles, receiving blankets, diapers, clothing, etc.
  2. Travel Storage: This would be great to fold down and take on trips to temporarily store the many things toddlers need.
  3. Linen Storage: This chest is sturdy enough to hold up to blankets, linens, and towels in the living room or a guest room.

Overall Impression

Overall, this storage chest exceeded my expectations. I know many people with comparable products that have only lasted a short time before falling apart.

Zebra Baby pays close attention to detail and what parents need. They go the extra mile to make sure their products are safe and will last. I’d rebuy this chest in a heartbeat, although I know I won’t ever need to replace it, as it will last!
